The Art and Ethics of Listening

Description

LISTENING is an intention, a choice, and a competency.

We are ALL listeners, neither "good" nor "bad." What kind of listener are YOU?

This research-informed workshop is designed for people who want to understand more deeply how they listen in work, in relationship, and across a variety of settings. While the workshop will not necessarily teach you "how to listen", you will come away with an understanding about:

  • Listening styles (empathic, transactional, emotive, social, systemic, and narrative)

  • What blocks you from listening more intentionally and holistically

  • How to listen in ways that are situationally-appropriate

  • Self-care for listeners

  • How to let your own "story" fall away temporarily so that another story can enter

  • Skills for making your listening manifest in the world (visuals, reflection, artifacts)

  • Your own code of ethics around listening

  • How to build a listening culture in your organization or network

Teachers, facilitators, team leaders, managers, therapists, and coaches might be the natural audiences for this workshop, but anyone who is interested and dedicated to finding out more about how to listen is a prime candidate for participation here.

The only things you'll need are comfortable clothes, a notebook and pen, a water bottle, and a willingness to expand your understanding about what listening means--and could mean--in your life. Lunch will be provided. **Upon registering, PLEASE identify any dietary restrictions/considerations that you have.**
